Middlesex won the toss, elected to play as White and went on to win the first round fairly comprehensively by 8 points to 4, despite
some good chess played by Essex. However, in the second round Essex (now playing White) showed great strength of character and
fought their way back into the match to such an extent that everything was level with the outcome of the match depending on the
result of the game between Ryan Raymond and Andrew Murphy. And what an exciting game that was! It ended with Andrew managing to
Queen his Pawn leaving him with a Queen and a King against a King and a Knight. Unforntunately, Andrew had less than 5 minutes left
on his clock in which to check-mate the wiley Ryan Raymond and the game ended in a draw which meant that the match was tied.
