The under 11s played in the EPSCA Final at The Malcolm Arnold Academy (formally Trinity College), Trinity Avenue, Northampton on 12th May 2012.

Teams involved were from Barnet, Berkshire, Birmingham, Cheshire and North Wales, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Manchester, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oldham, Richmond, Staffordshire, Sussex, Wey Valley (Surrey), Yorkshire and Essex.

After the team’s good performance in the zonal I had hopes for a good result in the final.  However it soon became clear how strong our opponents were with a return of 8 points from the first round.  This included no less than six draws.

For the second round some better results by the top boards meant that we scored 9.5 points.  Of particular note was Daniels draw against Wey Valley and Toby’s win against Sussex.

In the final round our top boards scored even better with boards 2 to 7 all winning.  Again we improved to score 10.5 point.  Notable wins came for Daniel (Sussex), Jamie (Notts) and Ciaran (Kent).

At the end the team had scored 28 points and finished a commendable ninth.

Special mention for Ben Jarman who won all his games, for Daniel Gallagher who was unbeaten and for Alex Albright won both his games for the main team. Also congratulations to Scott Shelley who won a reserve prize.

Well done to all the team players (here and in the zonal).  Everyone tried their hardest in the games and the team was a pleasure to manage.

I would like to thank Mrudang for volunteering to be a board steward. Also thanks to Cath for being the scribe.  Finally a big thank you to all the parents for all your support.
