EPSCA Inter-Association Championship 2016 UNDER 11s – East Zone

The Essex Under 11s played in the EPSCA Under 11 East Zone at Orleans Park School in Twickenham on 19th March.  The other teams involved were Barnet, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Newham, Northamptonshire, Richmond, and Suffolk.

Daniel Gallagher in Graz

Highly rated Essex junior Daniel Gallagher recently played in Austria at the Graz Open.  Although Daniel was ranked only 115 out of a field of 136 players, he ended up with a score of 5/9 and a finishing place of 57th. This was a very good score for Daniel and it's great to see an Essex junior playing in an Open event on the continent.  Full details at chess-results http://www.chess-results.com/tnr181947.aspx

 

 

 

Under 14s Results - Victory Over Surrey!

The Essex u14 team has played two matches on consecutive weekends most recently against Surrey at home on 6 February.  This proved to be an excellent fixture with many very competitive games and Essex just edged the first round by 7 to 5.  In the first round our top boards made little impression on the strong Surrey players but the second round was a different story and the whole team steadily accumulated enough points to win the match by the healthy margin of 15½ to 8½.  Wins against Surrey can be quite rare but it was a well deserved performance with every member of the team contributing

Southend Junior Chess Tournament - 17 January 2016

 

The 3rd Essex Junior Grand Prix event of 2015/16 was held at the Prince Avenue Academy School in Westcliff-on-Sea on 17 January 2016 and attracted 93 entrants (seven more than last year).

Results in the various age groups were as follows –

1st Tristan Bromelow (Hainault) 6/6

2nd (on tie break) Aarnavh Trivedi (Cambridgeshire) 5/6

3rd Rehan Shikalgar (Newham) 5/6

Under 11 (40 players!)
