Friendly Match for Essex Girls

Home > News > Friendly Match for Essex Girls

Last Saturday, 16 April a team of Essex girls played a friendly match against a girl’s team made up of players from Cambridge plus Richmond junior club.  The fixture was arranged to give the girls an opportunity to play a match as we did not have enough younger players to make the long trek to Manchester for the EPSCA under 11 girl’s finals on the same day.  The match was played at the Friends Meeting House in Saffron Walden.

The team had a mixture of older players, some younger ones who had played for the County before and others who were experiencing their first match wearing an Essex shirt!  It was a very closely contested and enjoyable afternoon of chess with the visitors just winning by the odd point, 10½ to 9½.

With thanks to Nate Weersing and Nick Jackson for all their organisation not forgetting Dave Hawkins for controlling the chess on the day.
