It is not too late to enter the Colchester Junior Chess Tournament, the fourth event in the Essex Junior Grand Prix. It will be held next Saturday, 26 May 2018 and the entry form is available at this website via the red ‘view tournaments’ button.
There are other forthcoming events that have recently been added to the tournaments page -
The Essex Under 11s played in the EPSCA Under 11 Final at Grace Academy Solihull in Birmingham on 21st April 2018.
The 15 qualifying teams competing were Barnet, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire and North Wales, Essex, Kent, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Richmond, Sussex, Tameside, Warwickshire, and Wey Valley.
The Essex Under 11s played in the EPSCA Under 11 East Zone at Bishop Justus School, in Bromley, Kent on 17th March 2018. The other teams involved were Barnet, Bucks, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Newham, Northamptonshire, Richmond and Suffolk.
The under 14 team played their fourth fixture of 2017/18 at home against Kent at the King’s Road Primary School, Chelmsford on 10 March 2018. We had to win this match or score more than nine game points to make the tournament final for the second year running.
Following the recent bad weather the 4th event in the Essex Junior Grand Prix scheduled for 3rd March in Colchester had to be postponed. The new date will now be Saturday, 26th May 2018 at a venue to be confirmed.
The under 14 team played their third fixture of 2017/18 away against Surrey at Wilson’s School, Wallington on 24 February 2018. The Team Manager was pleased to be able to bring a strong team, including reserves, and we soon built up a healthy lead in the first round although there were several hard fought games. The top three boards were the last to finish but were all eventually won by Essex despite this looking unlikely until the closing stages of the games. This left us with a 10½ to 1½ lead at the interval between the games.
A reminder that the 4th Essex Junior Grand Prix event is to take place at St. Benedict’s Catholic College, Norman Way, Colchester, CO3 3US on Saturday 3rd March. The entry form is available on this website via the red “view tournaments” button. Please enter as early as you can to avoid disappointment.
