The Southend Chess Congress took place over the Easter weekend and it was pleasing to see several Essex juniors taking part there as it is at present the only weekend event in the County.

The best score by an Essex junior was made by Elliot Cocks who finished equal second with a score of 3½/5 in the Intermediate Section for players graded under 150.  Dion Huang scored 2/5 in the Major Section for players graded under 180.  Most of the juniors were in the Minor Section for players graded under 125 and here the best scores by our players were from Aadarsh Saravanan and Lavanan Ainkaran who both made 3/5.

Elliot, Aadarsh and Lavanan shared the prize given by the David Wood Memorial Trust.

Full details about the Southend Congress are available via the Essex Chess Association website http://www.essexchess.org.uk/index.php/mm-se/mm-se59

Niall Ali and Partha Mulay were part of the National Junior Squad that made the recent trip to Fridek Mystek in the Czech Republic.  Full details on the Squad website - http://www.ncjs.co.uk/

Finally, we have news that former Essex Junior Temi Aderogba is the Idaho State Girls Champion.  She obviously benefited from her playing experience in Essex!
