Well fought Win for Under 14s v Kent

The under 14 team played their second fixture of 2017/18 away against Kent on 2 December 2017.  The teams were evenly matched and despite some early wins for Essex after the first round the scores stood level at six points each.

After the interval between the games we certainly hit the ground running winning seven of the first eight games to finish thus ensuring victory in the match.  It was a credit to both teams that the remaining games continued to be well fought and there were two wins for each team giving a final score of 15-9 to Essex.

One curious feature is there was not one draw amongst any of the games played – a rare occurrence even at under 14 level but hopefully indicative of our fighting spirit.

This was our first away fixture for well over a year so it was good to have support of the players and parents against a strong Kent team.  We also had three reserves who done well by winning most of their games too!

As usual, the organisation and refreshments from Kent was good and very much appreciated.

So with the reverse matches to come in the New Year we stand well having won both our matches.  Full details of the team scores should appear on https://sccu-chess.com/index.php/en/east-league-17-18 at some point.  Hopefully we will have a strong team to make the journey to Wallington to play Surrey in February.
