Southend Junior Chess Tournament
The 3rd Essex Junior Grand Prix event of 2017/18 was held at the Prince Avenue Academy School in Westcliff-on-Sea on 14 January 2018 and attracted 62 entrants.
Whereas the two younger age groups had a winner with a maximum score the under 18 sections provided closer contests. In the Minor section, three players battled for the top prizes all finishing on five points with Fraser Caves the unlucky player to miss out on progressive scores. In the Open section some of the most promising young players in Essex fought hard for the prizes but, on this occasion, lost out to a visitor from outside the county.
