After a delay in the start of the Annual Southern Counties Chess Union (SCCU) county event for 2015/16 the Essex under 14 team finds itself in the Eastern Zone again with several strong county teams plus Richmond Junior Chess Club who are also affiliated to the SCCU.
Our first match was away to Kent in Sevenoaks. We faced a good team that led 8-4 after the first round. The second round was a much closer affair with our team winning by the narrowest of margin. The overall score was a 14.5 to 9.5 win to Kent though Essex did win the reserve boards by a 8-2 score!

Congratulations to Adam Taylor from Colchester who has attained the FIDE master title.
Several years ago Adam was a regular at Essex junior events, winning many trophies and being Essex Under 11 Champion in 2009. Following that Adam was a constant member of the Under 14 Team for two years scoring an excellent 9 points from 10 games in the year the team reached the SCCU Under 14 Team Final.
Since then Adam has moved onto to greater achievements in the chess world and he has represented England many times at junior events.
Under 14 matches with other counties are being arranged and the Team Manager has been in touch with prospective players. Further interest is always welcome so if your son or daughter wishes to be considered for the matches please contact Trevor Dickerson via email email@example.com
The first annual Challenge Match with Cambridge juniors was held at St Faith’s School in Cambridge on Saturday 26 September 2015. Each County fielded players in under 11, 14 and 18 categories and after two rounds of highly competitive chess Essex emerged as the winners of the Challenge Cup. This was mainly due to strong performances by the under 14 players and a spirited performance by the under 11s who were clear winners of the second round after just losing the first.. Scores were as follows -
